Angela Bassett told audience members at her husband Courtney B. Vance's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony that his honor "is deeply deserved"

"I love you, and I'm grateful that the world now has a star that bears your name," Bassett said

Bassett and Vance have been married since 1997, and they share 19-year-old children Bronwyn and Slater

Angela Bassett is praising her husband Courtney B. Vance's acting skills and his personality as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Vance, 65, Bassett, 67, and their two kids — daughter Brownyn, 19, and son Slater, also 19 — appeared together on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in Los Angeles for Vance's Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony. "I have to live with this man," Bassett quipped as she took the podium to speak about Vance, just across the street where her own Walk of Fame star (she received one in 2008) resides on Hollywood Boulevard.

"As an actor, Courtney is committed, relatable and deeply reliable. He shows up fully every time, onstage, on-screen, and on television, drowning each performance in emotional truth and the human complexity," the actress said of her husband, whom she has been married to since 1997.

During Bassett's speech, she re-told memories of Vance's first onstage acting role, noting her husband's Tony Award-winning work on the stage in Broadway's Lucky Guy and his on-screen roles in Lovecraft Country and The Hunt for Red October, among dozens of other film and TV credits he has racked up since the 1980s.

"Today's honor is deeply deserved. This star recognizes not only his artistry, but his integrity, his generosity and his grace with which he moves through the world," Bassett said in her speech. "I'm proud of you. I love you, and I'm grateful that the world now has a star that bears your name."

Bassett and Vance's daughter Bronwyn also spoke during the ceremony, recalling that her father once gave her "flowers and a box of candy" on Valentine's Day after she had broken up with her "very serious 10th grade boyfriend and I thought my world was falling apart."

"Dad, you spend your life serving others. Today, as we celebrate you, I hope you'll allow yourself to be fully celebrated," Bronwyn said during her speech.

When Vance himself took the podium to accept the honor, he referred to Bassett "the person who has made me the man I am today" in his speech.

"I'm just very very full and grateful. I saw this honor bestowed upon my wife March 20th, 2008, when our children were almost 2, and I remember how huge a day it was for both our families," he said. "And to return to this hallowed place directly across the street from where she was honored and have that same honor bestowed upon me is really more happiness than I emotionally can bear."

Vance most recently appeared on the big screen as Cobra Bubbles in Disney's live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch this past spring.
