**This article contains spoilers for the *Emily in Paris* season 5 finale, "Veni, Vidi, Venezia."**

Bienvenue à Paris (again)!

After a very dramatic season set largely in Rome, the *Emily in Paris* season 5 finale finally sees Lily Collins' Emily Cooper and friends back in France's capital (though maybe not for long). Heading into the final episode, we had many questions — Who is getting engaged? Who is breaking up? What's up with Alfie and Mindy? Will Emily and Gabriel ever get back together? What is the future of Agence Grateau? — and the wild and twisty finale delivered. Let's unpack everything we learned.

Episode 10 starts in Venice, Italy, with Mindy, Nico, Emily, and Marcello checking out the venue for the new Muratori fashion show only to learn there’s a big problem (because of course there is): The city’s infamous aqua alta tides have flooded the venue. But, as always, Emily rolls with the punches, and they decide to lean in by putting the models and guests in rain boots and ponchos.**

Marcello’s mother and sister surprise everyone by showing up unexpectedly, but instead of tanking the show, she very dramatically gets up at the conclusion and gives her son the bravo he’s been looking for. She agrees to drop the lawsuit against him, and, finally realizing her son is “a true designer” like his father, she asks him to take over Muratori from her as the head of the label.

Marcello wants Emily to take over their marketing, and drops the bomb (that Emily frankly should have seen coming) that this news means he’s going to have to move back to Solitano for good. He wants Emily to move into his mother’s house with him, which he is also inheriting. Emily is overwhelmed by the news, but they agree to make no decisions now.**

Cut to Sylvie, who gets off the phone and informs Luc and Julien that as a result of her divorcing Laurent, who is deeply in debt, the bankruptcy court is coming for all of his assets, which includes *her* assets, which means Agence Grateau is in deep *merde*. She lovingly tells them they should look for other jobs and to not go down with the ship with her. When they ask about Emily, she tells them not to worry — Emily will be fine because she has Muratori now.**

Sylvie goes to congratulate Emily and tells her to jump on the opportunity with Marcello. In what has got to be the best Sylvie-Emily interaction to date on the show, Sylvie then tells Emily that they’d be lucky to have her and starts to cry when she tells Emily that she knows this because of how lucky Sylvie herself was to have her.

On the personal side of things, Emily spends much of the episode thinking Marcello is going to propose to her. This is because when Emily can’t find her passport, she goes snooping through Marcello’s things and finds a diamond ring. She meets with Mindy to freak out, and she expresses some reservations about how quickly it’s happening, but assures Mindy that she pictures Marcello when she envisions her future.**

Some time after, Marcello and Emily go out to a romantic lunch where she thinks he might propose with a ring at the bottom of a tiramisu (girl, what?) but it was a false alarm (thank God).**

Later, Mindy gets a call from Alfie, who asks to see her when she gets back to Paris and tells her they really had something special when they hooked up earlier this season. She tentatively agrees to see him again when she gets back to Paris.**

On a gondola ride, Marcello starts saying sweet things to Emily, then lets Nico tell Mindy how great she is. Then, Marcello gets out the ring box, and Emily immediately blurts out, “What? No. I love you, but I can’t marry you. I just — I can’t leave everything in Paris to move to Solitano. It’s not my life.”

Marcello, who looks devastated, cuts her off to inform her, “It’s also not your ring... I was holding it for Nico.” Nico proceeds to give probably the most uncomfortable marriage proposal ever, thanks to our girl, Em, ruining the moment, but Mindy says yes nonetheless.

After, Marcello and Emily have an emotionally charged conversation where Emily profusely apologizes, but he tells her he knows she reacted that way because, in the moment, she realized how she truly feels. She tells him how hard she’s worked for her life in Paris, and he tells her he belongs in Italy. She says she wishes she could be there with him, but she can’t. “It’s a beautiful dream, but it’s just not mine,” she says. They embrace one last time.**

Back in Paris, Mindy and her ring run into Alfie, who is understandably upset. He refuses to offer congratulations on the engagement, and tells her the best he can do is tell her good luck and that she’s making a big mistake. Emily asks if she still has feelings for Alfie, and Mindy can’t answer, which feels like an answer in itself. “Oh my god, what am I doing?” Mindy asks Emily. Girl, we've been wondering that all season.**

Back at Agence Grateau, Emily shows up to get back to work, and Sylvie informs her about almost losing the company. She explains that all is well, however, because an equity partner came in to keep them afloat, but she warns there may be some changes around the office because of it. Right on cue, Minnie Driver's Jane swoops in, informing Emily that her dead husband left her the palazzo, which she’s gotten a lucrative offer on from the Four Seasons. “F--- this is gonna be fun,” she says to the group, as Sylvie, Emily, Luc and Julien don’t look so sure.**

The season ends back on the yacht where Gabriel has been serving as a private chef all season. His boss informs him that he has a few weeks off in Greece to himself, and just like fate, Sylvie plays matchmaker and texts Gabriel to inform him that Emily and Marcello broke up, and to do with that information what he will. We see him sending a "From Greece with Love" postcard, like Emily told him to do earlier in the season, that reads, “Emily, as promised… a postcard with a stamp. I’m at sea without you. Meet me in Greece. Yours, Gabriel.”**

We see him looking out to sea as credits roll. Et fin.

*Emily in Paris* hasn't officially been greenlit for a sixth season yet, but if it does, the finale certainly sets up some more juicy Mindy engagement drama, Agence Grateau stress, and more will-they-or-won't-they torture for Emily and Gabriel. Stay tuned!**
