Tinder agrees to $60.5M class settlement. Who qualifies for a payout?
Tinder has agreed to pay $60.5 million to customers to settle a class action lawsuit accusing the dating platform of charging those 29 and older higher subscription fees.
A 2015 complaint filed in the Superior Court of the State of California in the County of Los Angeles accuses Tinder of charging older customers $19.99 per month for "Tinder Plus," while charging people under 30 only $9.99 to $14.99 per month. The match-making app company released Tinder Plus, which gives customers premium features, in 2015.
The company's pricing policy violates California law, the complaint alleges. California law bars businesses from treating consumers unfairly based on defining characteristics.
"Tinder has brazenly announced and employed a multi-tiered pricing plan that treats consumers unequally based solely on their age," the lawsuit states.
In December 2025, both parties agreed to a $60.5 million settlement, according to court documents reviewed by USA TODAY.
Although Tinder settled, the company "denies that it did anything wrong or violated any law or that any class members were injured by its age-based pricing policy," according to a class action notice.
USA TODAY contacted Tinder on April 13, but did not receive an immediate response.

What's the Tinder settlement amount?
The $60.5 million settlement amount still needs to be approved by a judge. A final approval hearing is scheduled for May 20, according to the settlement website.
If the settlement amount is approved, impacted customers have until Aug. 18 to choose a payment method. People will also have until that date to verify their membership in the class if they did not receive notice.
If customers do not select a payment method, the settlement administration will attempt to pay them via PayPal, Venmo or Zelle, based on Tinder records, the website states.
How to qualify for the Tinder settlement
People qualify for the settlement if they purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California on or after March 2, 2015, when they were over the age of 29, or any time after March 2, 2016, when they were over the age of 28.
How much can you get in the settlement?
According to the settlement website, people will receive a share of the settlement on a per-capita and pro rata basis. Each class member will be entitled to a share equal to the net settlement amount approved by the court, which will then be divided by the total number of class members who participate in the settlement, the website states.
